5. How do I connect to a dev site folder through my file browser (Windows Explorer/Network Places)?

A.

  1. At the bottom left of each dev site folder page is a "WebFolder URL" address. In your web browser, log on to the dev site and open the desired folder. Select that entire URL address (it will resemble this: "https://dev.simwright.net/quarry/foldername/home/"). Right click the mouse and select "Copy".
  2. Now find and open "My Network Places" on your computer. Open the "Add Network Place" shortcut in that folder and a wizard starts.
  3. Right click in the input box for the network location and select "Paste" then make sure the address pasted matches the WebFolder URL.
  4. Then click [Next] and you will be prompted to log in. Enter your dev site log in information and choose whether or not to save your password.
  5. Click [OK] and you will be prompted to enter a name for this network place. Click [Finish].
  6. Your new folder can be found in "My Network Places" in Windows.

Website

1. Some links on the site do not open.

A. Some links are programmed to open in a new window and may be blocked by pop-up blockers. Generally most can be bypassed by holding [Ctrl] while clicking the link.

Some newer browsers have "tabs" and the link may open in a new "tab" in the same browser window. Check your tabs to see if it has opened there.

Many links are programmed to re-use the new window or tab. They will open in the same window/tab in which a previous link (from our site) opened.

If this problem is persistent, please contact support@simwright.com. Be sure to explain your problem, what page it is on, and what browser and version you are using.

2. Some web pages do not display correctly, things are jumbled and overlapping.

A. This site is best viewed with a screen size of 1024x768 or larger and font size set to "Medium" in Internet Explorer, "Original Size" in Netscape, or "Normal" in Mozilla Firefox.

Older browsers do not support some code on the site and can also cause problems. Please use Internet Explorer 6+, Netscape 7+ or Mozilla Firefox 1+.

The site is optimized for Internet Explorer 6.

3. I'm having problems viewing the Visual Simulations (Visualization Databases) on the Virtual Reality page.

A. These are very large databases with many image texture files and can take a while to load. Dial-up connections and older computer hardware configurations are not recommended.

Make sure you have the required Cortona VRML Client browser plug-in installed. Right clicking in the model window will bring up viewer menu. Select "Preferences" and the options window will open. Selecting a different "Renderer" may improve performance. Viewer problems should be addressed by Parallel-Graphics.

Hardware

1. How do I connect my VR Joy Stereo Glasses?

A. There should be four (4) parts:

  • Glasses
  • VR Joy Controller box
  • Video Sync cable/adapter
  • Power cord

VRJoy

  • The Video sync cable directly to the video card (a CRT display adapter may be needed - should come with the video card). The monitor cable is then connected to it.
  • The Power cord is connected to the P/S2 keyboard port on the computer and the keyboard is connected to it.
  • Both the power cord and video sync cable are connected to the back of the VR Joy controller box.
  • The glasses are plugged into the front of the controller box.

2. What are the correct settings for my video card to display stereo?

A.

Note: You must have a stereo enabled graphics card to run actual stereo imagery, otherwise StereoGIS™ defaults to anaglyph or it can be set to split screen. See our Hardware page for more information.

For stereo capable graphics cards:
Open "Display Options" from "Control Panel." Select the "Settings" tab. Click the [Advanced...] button (first select the correct monitor for dual displays) and set the settings below:

Select your card:

NVIDIA

  • Find the NVIDIA "Quadro" tab, select it and a pop out menu appears to the left. Set the following options...
  • Expand the "Performance & Quality Settings" list and select "Additional OpenGL Settings" - the main window should change
  • Check the box to "Enable stereo in OpenGL"
  • In the "Stereo display mode" drop down menu, select the correct mode for the stereo glasses you have
  • In the list to the left again, find and select "Screen Resolutions & Refresh Rates"
  • In the main window set the "Screen refresh rate" to 100Mhz or above
  • If 100MHz is unavailable, you may need to uncheck the box to "Hide modes that this monitor cannot support"

3DLabs

  • Find the 3DLabs tab and click the [Advanced...] button and set the following options...
  • OpenGL tab: Check the "Enable Stereo OpenGL" box
  • OpenGL tab: set "Optimized Applications" drop down to "OpenGL (TM) Default"
  • Monitor tab: "Monitor Options," "Type" may need to be set to "VESA" to enable 100MHz refresh rate
  • Click the [OK] button and set the following on the Advanced Display Options...
  • "Monitor" tab: "Refresh Frequency" drop down set to 100MHz or above.

Note: Your monitor must support at least 100MHz refresh rate at 1024 x 800 screen resolution

3. How do I tell if my video card is stereo capable?

A. Stereo capable video cards have an actual stereo port on them that is regularly mistaken as the common s-video port. NuVision Glasses are connected to this port. The port pin connectors are configured in the diagram below. If your card has this port, it is stereo capable.

stereo port

Currently only the 3DLabs VP760 and above series and NVIDIA's Quadro4 700 XGL (or above) and Quadro FX series cards are stereo enabled.
